Master Tonic Recipe ~ An all natural remedy to get through cold and flu season

by | Natural Remedies

What is Master Tonic?

Master tonic, also known as fire cider, is an all natural, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic and anti-fungal tonic that boosts your immune system making it ideal during cold and flu season.

It’s made with superfood ingredients that each have many healing properties on their own, when combined you get a super potent immunity boosting supplement.

The exact origins of master tonic are unknown but many believe that the tonic should be made according to the moon cycles ~ Make it on a new moon and let it infuse until the full moon.  I do not follow the moon cycles when making my tonic.  I make my tonic at the beginning of the fall season and I let it steep and brew for 2 weeks.

There are quite a few recipes you can find on line.  I have a recipe that I have been using for a few years that I like and hasn’t let me down (knock wood).  All of the ingredients I use are high quality, organic ingredients.

I make the tonic for myself, my husband and I share it with friends and family.  I don’t give it to my kids.  The taste is a little strong for their young taste buds.  If you can get your kids to take it then go for it.  It’s perfectly safe for kids, but I wouldn’t recommend giving it to babies under 2.

How to make Master Tonic

Master Tonic

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons ground Turmeric
  • Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar – Raw, with the mother
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped garlic
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 fresh, hot peppers.  I use Jalepeno’s
  • 1/4 cup grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of horseradish

Master Tonic

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients, except for the vinegar, in an air tight mason jar
  • Add apple cider vinegar to just below the top of the jar
  • Close tightly and shake
  • Keep the jar in a cool, dry place for 14 days.  Shake several times a day
  • After 14 days, strain, pour liquid into a mason jar.  Discard or you can reuse the chopped veggies and herbs
  • Refrigerate for up to 1 year

Use

As a preventative, take 1 tablespoon daily

When you feel yourself coming down with an illness take 1 tablespoon, 3-4 times a day until you are feeling better.  Last winter I was doing straight up tonic shots, aka wellness shots, up to 5 times a day as part of my regimen to avoid the flu.  Thankfully it worked.  Hopefully it will help me again this season.

I hope this master tonic recipe helps you and your family stay healthy throughout this cold and flu season.
